Practice, Practice, Practice

After our three losses at the tournament, it was back to the drawing board. We decided on a way we’d like to play soccer, and we trained hard to make sure we could carry out our game plan. This involved the girls mastering the ability to pass and move, and to identify the space to either pass or move into. Slowly but surely, we became more consistent in these skills, and we began applying them into game situations in training. The girls were challenged when playing against a highly skillful sixth grade boys’ side and against the grade eight girls, too. These were great defensive practices for us!

Dulwich’s grade eight girls came to visit for a game, and WAB grade seven team played for a half against them. In this game, there were opportunities for both sides to score, but excellent goalkeeping kept the score at 0-0. From a coaching perspective, it was great to see the skills being applied against a real opposition. Now we just needed to score!
