The Girls’ Volleyball Team: A Season of Growth and Success
The girls’ volleyball team started this year with fresh ideas and enthusiasm, despite losing eight seniors last year. Tryouts saw a big turnout for both the boys’ and girls’ programs, and the coaches were excited to work with the athletes and teams.
The season began with promise and some shaky results, but the team achieved many goals in terms of skills and ability. They finished 3rd at the China Cup and 2nd at Tricities, gaining valuable team bonding and learning experiences.
Varsity Girls Volleyball: Super APAC Girls Volleyball Championship - 1st Place
The WAB Tigers varsity girls’ volleyball team traveled to Shanghai Puxi Campus for the 2024 Super APAC Girls Volleyball Championship. After an early morning loss against HKIS, the team rallied in the next two games, playing TCIS and UNIS, finishing their last game at 9:45 PM.
The next day, they played two important matches. The first was against CISS, where they lost the first set but came back convincingly for a 2-1 win. In the second game, they faced a strong team from BRENT Manila, beating them in three sets. This put them second in their division, where they faced SFS. The Tigers established a strong presence at the net, making it challenging for their opponents to set up an offense, resulting in a 3-0 straight-set win.
In the semi-finals, the Tigers played CISS again and quickly set the tone, winning in three straight sets.
The finals started shakily, with the team losing the first two sets in closely contested battles. With their backs against the wall, the girls finished the second set showing sparks of the fire that brought them to this point. The third set started where the second set left off, and the Tigers came back with a roar! The team was unstoppable at the net, showing patience and confidence against the great defensive line of CA. With the offense going strong, WAB’s defense picked up, and the team’s full potential was realized in the final game of APAC.
For the first time in WAB’s volleyball program, the girls achieved a “three-peat” championship: 2019-2020 (the last APAC before the pandemic shutdown), 2023-2024, and now 2024-2025 (Super APAC).
The girls thank the many supporters in our community, including their parents, friends, and family members, the boys’ varsity program for always motivating and supporting them, and the WABX department for providing the opportunity to train and play.
Division 1 ISAC Girls Champions
Just a week after finishing APAC, the team headed to BCIS to compete in the Division 1 ISAC tournament. Despite various injuries and absences, the team had only eight players for the full-day tournament. While the team was tired, they rallied and found their groove, finishing the tournament undefeated with some close sets and rallies.
The way this team plays volleyball is a joy to see. They represented us well with good team spirit and attitude.
